Build: engineering

Web application development for businesses that have outgrown spreadsheets

We are software and application developers in Adelaide who design and build custom web apps for businesses across Australia: client portals, internal systems and SaaS-style products that fit the way your business actually runs.

Signs you need custom software

  • The same data lives in five places

Stock in a spreadsheet, orders in email, invoices in another tool. Every handover is a chance for mistakes.

  • Off-the-shelf tools almost fit

You pay for features you never use and work around the one process that makes your business different.

  • Growth means more admin, not more output

Each new customer adds manual steps. Hiring is the only way to keep up.

  • Clients keep asking for updates by phone

A secure portal would let them see status, documents and invoices themselves.

What we build

  • Internal business systems

Inventory, ordering, job tracking, invoicing and content management in one application, like the portal we built for TimberMax Supply.

  • Client and partner portals

Secure sign-in areas where customers book, track progress, download documents or pay, with role-based access for your staff.

  • SaaS products and MVPs

From a first version that proves the idea to a multi-tenant product ready for paying customers.

  • Progressive web apps

App-like experiences that install from the browser and work across devices, without the cost of separate native apps.

  • API integration

Connecting payment gateways, accounting and CRM systems, email and SMS so data moves on its own instead of being retyped.

  • Cloud hosting and support

Deployment, backups, monitoring and updates on dependable cloud infrastructure, with a clear support arrangement after launch.

Custom or off-the-shelf?

Custom software is not always the answer. We will tell you when an existing product, configured well, is the better investment.

Off-the-shelf usually wins when

  • your process is standard for your industry
  • you need it running this month
  • a subscription costs less than the time it saves

Custom usually wins when

  • your process is how you beat competitors
  • you are stitching several tools together by hand
  • per-user fees grow faster than the business

How we deliver a web application

  1. Map the workflow

We sit with the people who will use the system and map how work, data and approvals really flow today.

  2. Define the first release

We agree the smallest version that removes the biggest pain, with a written scope and estimate.

  3. Design the interface

Clickable prototypes of the key screens, tested with your team before code is written.

  4. Build in stages

Working software on a private staging environment early, so you can try it and steer as it grows.

  5. Launch and improve

Data migration, training and go-live, then improvements based on how people actually use it.

Technology

We choose mainstream, well-supported tools so the software can be maintained for years, by us or by another team.

Interfaces

  • React
  • Next.js
  • TypeScript
  • Responsive and accessible UI

Back end

  • Node.js
  • REST APIs
  • Relational databases
  • Role-based access

Integrations

  • Payment gateways
  • Accounting and CRM systems
  • Email and SMS

Questions we often hear

Something else on your mind? Ask us directly.

What does a custom web application cost?

It depends on the workflows, user roles and integrations involved. We scope a first release that solves the biggest problem and give you a written estimate for it, so you are not committing to everything at once.

Who owns the code?

You do. The application, its source code and its data belong to your business, and we document how it is built and deployed.

Can you take over an existing application?

Often, yes. We start with a code and infrastructure review, then tell you plainly whether to maintain, refactor or replace it.

Is a web app secure enough for customer data?

We build with secure authentication, role-based permissions, encrypted connections and regular backups, and keep dependencies updated after launch.

Do you build mobile apps as well?

Yes. Many web apps are delivered as progressive web apps that work on phones; when you need App Store or Google Play distribution, see mobile app development.
